“Paths of Religiosity” Academic Conference
On October 23rd and 24th, Puente Genil will host the “Paths of Religiosity: Heritage, Identity, and Cultural Expressions in Andalusia” academic conference.
This event aims to showcase progress on the “Popular Religiosity and Andalusian Identity” research project, developed by the Simancas University Institute of History and the Center for Andalusian Studies Foundation (CENTRA).
The sessions will take place at the *Cuartel del Imperio Romano* (Roman Empire building) in Puente Genil.

Opening presentation: “Counter-Reformation Theater and Contemporary Pageantry: Art and Iconography in Puente Genil’s Holy Week,” by Jesús María Ruiz Carrasco, Professor of Art History at the University of Córdoba.
Roundtable discussion presenting the research project’s findings from anthropological and historical perspectives, coordinated by Francisco Javier Crespo, Professor of History at the University of Valladolid and the project’s principal investigator.

Presentation: “Holy Week Observances in Andalusia,” by José Luis Anta Félez, Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Jaén.
Presentation: “Music in Processions: Tradition and Identity,” by Abel Moreno, composer and band director.
Roundtable: “Social Perspective and Economic Impact of Religious Observances in Andalusia,” featuring Tristán Pertíñez, Director of the Center for Andalusian Studies, and Ana Rocío Andreu, a research specialist at the Foundation. The economic impact will be discussed by Ricardo Rojas, Managing Partner at Eteron Partners.
The day’s academic activities will continue with a tribute to Professor Salvador Rodríguez Becerra—one of the most renowned scholars in the field of religious practices in Andalusia—and will conclude with the official closing ceremony and a series of cultural activities.
